Service How To: Remove Solar & Rock Guards

Solar and Rock guards are used to protect your Airstream Trailer from damage during transport. Sometimes leaves and debris can get stuck between the Solar Guards and they will need to be cleaned. Rock guards may also need to be replaced if heavily damaged. Below we will show how to remove both without damaging your trailer.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  • Phillips head screwdriver

  • 7/16″ Socket

SOLAR GUARDS

Step 1:

Starting on the front Solar Guard, lift the rubber T-Latch on each side to release.

Step 2:

Lift the guard and use the thumbscrews on each side to secure in the upright position, you now have access to clean the window.

Step 3:

To remove the side Solar Guards start by using a Philips head screwdriver and locate the two screws shown below. Turn each screw counter-clockwise to release.

Next, pull the guard outward to release and gain access to the window. Be very careful to not overextend the guard as it can push against the trailer and cause damage.

Step 4:

In order to remove the guard completely from the trailer, simply lift it upwards off the hinges.

ROCK GUARDS

Step 1:

To remove the Rock Guards, you will need a 7/16″ socket to remove the three nuts shown below.

Step 2:

With the nuts removed, gently pull outwards to release the guard from the trailer. The guard is attached to the trailer by a hinge on the side opposite of the nuts.

Step 3:

With the guard separated from the trailer, you can now clean behind. Avoid letting the guard hang freely as it can easily damage the trailer if blown by the wind.

If your rock guards are heavily damaged we suggest we suggest replacing them. If you need help choosing the right guards for your trailer please contact our Parts Department at 800-265-9019.
